Commercial Buildings (Business Centers, Shopping Malls, Towers)

Business centers, shopping malls (Malls) and commercial towers stand out as places where heavy flows of people and commercial activities are carried out on a daily basis. Such structures require reliable energy infrastructures, security systems and continuously operating data management systems. In business centers, power outages can lead to disruption of business processes, data loss and economic losses. Similarly, power outages in shopping malls and commercial towers can disrupt commerce and reduce customer satisfaction.

Energy management and security solutions in commercial buildings are crucial for ensuring operational continuity. Particularly, the energy distribution systems used in large buildings must guarantee safe and uninterrupted energy supply. Additionally, since commercial buildings typically house various businesses, the energy needs of each business may differ. Therefore, it is important for energy infrastructuress to be flexible and modular, allowing them to respond to different demands.

Additionally, security and monitoring systems in commercial buildings are of great importance. Security solutions such as camera systems, fire alarms, and access control systems require continuous energy and data connectivity. Data management is also a crucial need in commercial buildings, especially in business centers, where companies' digital infrastructuress must operate seamlessly. Data security and connectivity continuity are critical requirements for such structures. Commercial buildings should also be equipped with maintenance-friendly solutions, offering quick response times and low-cost repair processes in case of malfunctions.

Seismic Resilience Requirement:

Turkey's location in an earthquake zone makes it mandatory for non-structural products, such as electrical panels and rack cabinets, to be manufactured to withstand seismic movements. To ensure energy continuity and protect life safety during an earthquake, it is crucial to use sector-independent seismic-certified products and to strictly adhere to the manufacturer's installation instructions.

Seismic certification demonstrates that electrical panels and rack cabinets can maintain their structural integrity and functionality during an earthquake. Additionally, these certifications prove that the products have been tested according to international standards and are designed to withstand a specific level of seismic intensity.

Proper on-site installation of seismic-certified products directly impacts their performance and safety. Failure to adhere to the installation guidelines specified by the manufacturer can reduce the product's seismic resistance and may even lead to damage during an earthquake.

At EAE Elektroteknik, we place great importance on seismic resilience. Our products have been tested in accordance with international standards and are seismic certified. Additionally, we provide detailed installation instructions for our products to ensure that our customers can perform safe and accurate installations.

Need for Shaping for High Security:

For this sector, it is crucial for the panels to operate safely. Therefore, it is recommended to shape the electrical panels.

The process of compartmentalization, also known as shaping or internal separation in electrical panels, aims to enhance safety measures within the panel, ensuring the protection of both personnel and equipment. This process limits faults (such as fires) to a specific area and prevents technical personnel from coming into contact with live parts during intervention, maximizing safety.

There are different levels of shaping in electrical panels. These levels define the internal structure of the panel and the way the compartments are separated. The highest level of internal separation is called Form 4b. Form 4b means that all sections inside the panel are completely separated from each other, providing the highest level of safety.

Panels with Form 4b shaping are particularly preferred in high-risk environments and critical applications. These panels prevent the spread of faults, thus protecting both personnel safety and equipment security. Additionally, they provide a safe working environment during maintenance and repair operations.

Panels with Form 4b shaping typically also recommend the use of sectional covers. Sectional covers facilitate access to only specific parts of the panel, while maintaining the security of the compartments.

In summary, shaping or internal separation is an important practice to enhance safety in electrical panels. Different shaping levels provide solutions tailored to various needs and risk levels.

Need for High Corrosion Resistance:

The need of this sector is met by ensuring corrosion resistance, and all EAE Elektroteknik products stand out with high corrosion resistance under harsh environmental conditions.

Corrosion is the process of wear and tear of metals or metal alloys due to oxidation or other chemical effects. Electrical panels and rack cabinets need to be protected from these corrosive effects based on the environmental conditions they are exposed to.

• Paint application on cold-rolled steel (CRS): This method provides limited protection against corrosion. Although external environments are more corrosive, similar corrosive effects can occur in indoor environments over time as well. For this reason, the corrosion resistance achieved by applying paint on CRS should not be preferred for use in indoor environments.

• Galvanized steel or paint application on galvanized steel: This method, commonly used in industrial environments, provides effective protection against corrosion. It should generally be preferred for both indoor and outdoor applications. When evaluated in terms of cost and performance, it is quite advantageous.

In all EAE Elektroteknik products, even those that are painted, pre-galvanized steel is used. As explained above, this feature enhances the products' resistance to corrosion in harsh environmental conditions.

The Need for Correct Determination of IP Protection Rating:

The protection of electrical panels against environmental factors, including protection against solid and liquid objects, is ensured through tests conducted under the IEC 60529:1989 standard. These tests are expressed by numbers (IP code) that indicate the level of protection provided by the panels.

In the IP code, the first digit indicates the level of protection against solid objects, while the second digit represents the level of protection against liquids.

A high IP rating does not necessarily provide sufficient assurance for outdoor use, meaning that panels with a high IP level do not automatically indicate that they are suitable for EXTERNAL environments!

There is a misconception in the market that products with a high IP protection rating can be used in outdoor environments.

Even though products with a high IP protection rating are designed to be dustproof and waterproof, their exposure to corrosion in outdoor environments is shorter. Additionally, the effects of solar radiation should also be considered. These factors are not taken into account in the IP classification.

Additionally, as the IP rating increases, the temperature inside the panel also rises. This, in turn, reduces the current carrying capacity of the products. Therefore, it is important to determine the optimum IP value for the panel, neither too high nor too low.

The Need for Proper Ventilation:

The increase in temperature directly affects the performance of the devices inside the panel or rack cabinet. Temperature rise tests, which are just as important as short-circuit tests in panel type testing, are crucial for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of devices. Since temperature rise reduces current-carrying capacity, the temperature inside the panel/rack cabinet must be brought to an ideal level through proper ventilation.

The temperature inside the panel/rack cabinet rises due to the ambient temperature and the heat-generating devices inside (such as circuit breakers, busbars, servers, etc.). This temperature increase is calculated based on the electrical loss power values found in the catalogs of each device used.

The IP protection rating also contributes to the temperature rise by preventing heat from escaping. Therefore, it is important to choose the correct IP level for the panel/rack cabinet, rather than a high one. A higher IP rating does not always mean better protection, and the wrong choice can lead to excessive temperature rise, potentially damaging the devices.

Once the temperature rise is determined, the panel or rack cabinet can be cooled using the following methods based on the obtained value:

- Natural Ventilation

- Cooling with a Fan

- Cooling with an Air Conditioner

The Need for High Durability with the Correct IK Rating:

The level of protection against impact is referred to as the IK test in the IEC 62262:2002 standard. In this test, a value is determined by checking whether the damage caused by an object dropped from a specific height onto the panel affects the panel's IP protection rating. This value indicates the cabinet's IK rating. EAE panels are rated at the highest level, IK10.
